Product Description

Travoprost is a new type of PG drug, an analog of PGF2α, highly selective and affinity for PGFP receptors, and a complete agonist. The molecular structure of travoprost contains a pentene ring with α- and ω-carbon chains. The ester at the end of the α-chain helps penetrate the cornea and decompose into free acid in the corneal stroma. As the active part, it binds to the FP receptor and reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through the uveoscleral pathway.

After administration into the eye, it is hydrolyzed by corneal hydrolases into active free acid, which is distributed in the ocular tissues and activates PGFP receptors located in the ciliary muscle and trabecular cells after binding. This activation can stimulate the cascade of intracellular signal transduction, leading to the generation of inositol triphosphate and diglyceride, and mobilizing intracellular calcium ions, which in turn increases the release of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) precursors in the cells. MMP can degrade the cell matrix in the uveoscleral aqueous humor outflow pathway, reduce outflow resistance, promote aqueous humor outflow through the uveoscleral pathway, and reduce intraocular pressure. In addition, travoprost free acid can directly act on human trabecular cells, increase aqueous humor outflow through the pressure-sensitive outflow pathway, and reduce intraocular pressure.
