Antipyrine is an analgesic, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and an antipyretic.
Phenazone, also known as phenazon, antipyrine, or analgesine, is an analgesic, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and an antipyretic. Antipyrine was first synthesized by Ludwig Knorr in 1883. 
Antipyrine is formed by reducing diortho- dinitrodiphenyl with sodium amalgam and methyl alcohol, or by heating diphenylene-ortho-dihydrazine with hydrchloric acid to 150 °C. Antipyrine crystallizes in needles which melt at 156 °C.Potasium permangnate oxidizes it to pyridazine tetracarboxylic acid. Antipyrine has an elimination half life of about 12 hours
Antipyrine is Used as an analytical reagent for nitric acid, nitrous acid, and iodine. Determination of elements that form the network of Heyang ions (such as bismuth, tin, antimony and mercur).
